THE SUPER-DUPER 50TH ANNIVERSARY-A-RAMA-IN-OUR-PAJAMAS EPISODE

20th Century Popcast is a podcast that tries to understand the present by living in the past.  Each week hosts Bob and Tim take a sociological look at the pop culture of the '80s and '90s.  Its a ruining of their childhood that hopefully explains how they became adults.

POP 5: "Another pointless demarcation of exaggerated merit."  Do you know that Hot Wheels,  Ultron and Mr. Rogers Neighborhood are turning 50?   Bob and Tim do, so maybe they could have done an episode on one of those.  Instead, they are observing their own variation on this measurement with the 50th official episode of their year-old podcast.  Or 54th ... if you are actually counting.

Try to respect yourself in the morning for having once admired Bruce Willis's harmonica and vest combo HERE.

Suffer the apocalyptic horror that someone thought was worth syndicating to kids at 3:30pm  HERE.

Prove either Bob or Tim wrong by viewing this pair of Star Wars toy commercials HERE and HERE

Avoid not laughing at some Must-See Telelvision with the fluorescent shirt glow of a blooper reel HERE.

Watch some rats pretend they are making good on of-the-moment political commentary  HERE.

Then, to prove THIS existed, watch this HERE.

And finally, suffer what Tim deems insufferable by trying to live through this HERE.

MUSIC FEATURED IN TODAY’S EPISODE:

“Sassafras Roots” performed by Green Day off what USE to be everyone's favorite Green day album, 1994's DOOKIE.

"Respect Yourself" performed (without a hint of irony) by Bruce Willis off his 1987 full-length and, again, un-ironic  album, THE RETURN OF BRUNO.

"Missing You" performed by John Waite in dentist offices across the country as well as on his 1984 album NO BREAKS.

"The Future's So Bright I've Got To Wear Shades" not performed by the kids of Head Of The Class but, rather, by Timbuk3 off their 1986 debut album GREETINGS FROM TIMBUK3.

"Learning To Fly" performed by Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers (and on a pretty steady loop Tim's Junior year of High School) from their 1991 release INTO THE GREAT WIDE OPEN.

"Animate" performed by Rush from their released-the-same-day-as-Pearl-Jam's-Vs. 1993 album COUNTERPARTS.

"A Town called Malice" performed by The Jam off their 1982 album THE GIFT (clever Jam pun pending).

"Plush" performed by Stone Temple Pilots from their 1992 debut studio album CORE and previously featured on the 20POPCAST "Peal Jam Vs." episode HERE.

"Lightning Crashes" granted to the humanity of Earth by Live as one of two ear-worms slithering off their 1993 cassette THROWING COPPER.

"Rise" performed by Public Image LTD. from their 1986 album ALBUM (aka CASSETTE and later COMPACT DISC).
