Ménage Á Pop is a three times a week intimate discussion between two people and a piece of pop culture.
Back in High school, the only authentic way to express your inner-most thoughts was to play that one soul-shearing track from your very specific cassette collection. And for 15 year-old Bob Canning, nothing sang more honestly than the big band swing of Harry Connick Jr.’s … “We Are I Love?” Really? Swing music? For a ninth grader? Ahm… apparently its the inaugural topic of this inaugural episode as presented by our inaugural guest, (who also happens to be Tim’s co-host on 20TH CENTURY POP!) So let’s stop spell-checking “inaugural” and be-bop along with what Bob has to say about this.

POP NOTES
Released on July 3rd 1990, “WE ARE IN LOVE” was Harry Connick Junior’s fourth studio release, following his 1989 Grammy award winning soundtrack for WHEN HARRY MET SALLY.
While officially his fourth solo album, he had performed and recored in his pre-teens on two previous records of Dixieland classics in the late 70s. The second of these, PURE DIXIELAND was retitled ELEVEN and re-released as a Harry Connick Junior album in 1992 .
At age 5, Harry Connick Junior studied under the tutelage of noted Jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis Jr., father of two respected jazz musicians, bandleader Branford Marsalis and artistic director Wynton Marsalis. (Sadly, he passed away due to COVID-19 complications on April 1st 2020)
Less than two months after the release of this album, Harry Connick Junior co-starred in the World War II period piece MEMPHIS BELLE. This kicked off an acting career that included notable roles on LITTLE MAN TATE, INDEPENDENCE DAY, as well as the reoccurring role of Grace’s first husband Leo on the NBC sitcom WILL AND GRACE.
Tune back this Wednesday, when Bob and Tim chow down on some dorm-room memories of THE YELLOW M&M GUY.
