Thank you Canada, for Catherine O’Hara, X-Files exteriors and taking back Sum 41. Amidst all those wonderful import/exports, you also managed to smuggle in Quebec-born diva, Celine Dion. And while many of us have spent 22 years trying to get that boat song out of our head, performer Marianne Bayard recently embraced her as more than an ear-worm. In fact, she's translated this later-in-life admiration into a caricatured impression for her stage act.. So maybe think about the theme from Up Close and Personal and see if that helps you focus on what Marianne has to say about this.

Watch today’s guest MARIANNE BAYARD on KILLING IT a tv series she created, writes and stars in now streaming on AMAZON PRIME and MARESNKAPS.COM. Visit her homepage of MARIANNEBAYARD.COM and follow her on TWITTER @mariannetbayard.

POP NOTES

  • Her parents named her after the tragic 1966 song ‘Celine” recorded by pop singer Hugues Aufray

  • Celine Dion began her songwriting career at age 12, collaborating with her family on a title that translates to “It Was Only A Dream”

  • Married the late René Angéli in 1994. The two first met in 1981, at the start of her career, when she was 12 and he 32. So impressed by her voice, he became her manager for the following 30 years.

  • Had her first #1 hit in the U.S. with the Robert White Johnson and Taylor Rhodes penned “Where Does My Heart Beat Now.” The song would win its composers the 1991 “Most Performed Pop Award” as designated by the ASCAP, American Society Of Composers, Authors and Publishers.

  • According to producer Tommy Mottolla, Celine Dion recorded her vocals to the titanic hit “My Heart Will Go On” in just one take.

  • She was nominated for a total of six Blockbuster Entertainment Awards. Her sole win for “My Heart Will Go On” fell on the same year as Harry Connick Jr.’s Best Actor nomination for HOPE FLOATS.

  • In the mid 90s she cofounded a Canadian chain of 1950s style diners called Nickels.

  • Performed at the Opening Ceremony to the 1996 Summer Olympics to a combined audience (live and broadcast) of three and a half billion people.

  • Had a 400 seat auditorium named The Colosseum erected in 2002 to house her five year residency in Las Vegas
