FELICITY

Ménage Á Pop is a three times a week intimate discussion between two people and a piece of pop culture.

We've all got a story arc. A progression of episodic encounters that transpire on a week to week basis. But unlike the shows that analogue is based on, we don't have the benefits of a writing staff or supporting cast working toward a satisfying finale. So it makes sense that we loose ourselves in the broadcast transmissions of characters who do. And for singer Gretchen Bostrom, that relatable point of view was the four seasons and two hairstyles of Keri Russel in Felicity.

POP NOTES

  • FELICITY first premiered on Tuesday September 29th 1998. It ran for four seasons concluding with its 84th episode “Back To The Future” on Wednesday May 22nd 2002.

  • FELICITY was the first television project of creator J.J. Abrams (GONE' FISHIN’). He would go on to create such scifi tv spectacles as ALIAS (2001), LOST (2004) and FRINGE (2008).

  • In addition to series lead Keri Russell (THE AMERICANS) the show stared up and coming performers Scott Speedman (UNDERWORLD: BLOOD WARS), Tangi Miller (MADEA’S FAMILY REUNION), Scott Foley (SCANDAL) and Amy Joe Johnson (SWEETWATER) who had previously portrayed the original Pink Ranger on the first incarnation of MIGHTY MORPHIN’ POWER RANGERS (1993).

  • The series four season run featured directorial efforts by Steve Miner (FRIDAY THE 13TH PART III) Joanna Kerns (THE GOLDBERGS) Matt Reeves (WAR OF THE PLANET OF THE APES) and Joan Twekesbury (screenwriter of 1975’s NASHVILLE).

  • At the start of the second season the character of Felicity cut her noticeably long hair into a far shorter fashion. Coincidentally the ratings for the second season declined leaving certain producers to believe it was due to her shorter hair style. Truthfully, this dip in viewership could be attributed to its move to Sunday nights opposite both TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL (1994) and THE SIMPSONS (1989).

  • The series would sporadically experiment with its format including the second seasons's Twilight Zone homage “Help For The Lovelorn” helmed by original TWILIGHT ZONE director Lamont Johnson.

  • The series was cancelled by the WB in its 4th season. Production finished on the intended series finale (“The Graduate” ) only to have the network grant it an additional five episodes. As a result, the show’s creator’s developed a five episode time travel arc that simultaneously explored divergent paths based on the varying choices Felicity faced.

Tune back next Monday when actor Jason Dugre (THE GILMORE GIRLS) thrills to the nearly 8 bits of ingenuity that comprise Disney’ TRON..
