  • Some of the key elements to urban fantasy are magic, urban settings, magic and a crime noir aesthetic.

  • Kim Harrison is actually a pen name for author Dawn Cook. She has authored authored over 12 Hollow Series novels, featuring protagonist Rachel Morgan under the Kim Harrison name starting with 2004’s DEAD WITCH WALKING.

  • Under the name Dawn Cook, she has authored the the four volume THE TRUTH series beginning with 2004’s FIRST TRUTH.

  • Jim Butcher wrote his first novel as THE DRESDEN FILES, in 1996 as part of an assignment for a writing course. Officially published on April 1, 2000 as STORM FRONT he quickly followed it up with two more Dresden books, FOOL MOON and GRAVE PERIL all within a year and a half.

  • On September 20th of this year he released the 17th title in the Dresden Files series, BATTLE GROUND.

  • Jim Butcher’s THE DRESDEN FILES series was adapted into a 12 episode Sci-Fi series in 2007. It starred Paul Blackthorne (JUSTICE LEAGUE: DOOM) as detective as Detective Harry Dresden as well as Valerie Cruz (TRUE BLOOD) adn Terrance Mann (JERRY SPRINGER: THE OPERA).

  • Further examples of Urban Fantasy include Charlaine Harris (THE SOUTHERN VAMPIRE MYSTERIES), Laurell K. Hamilton (THE MERRY GENTRY) Neil Gaiman (AMERICAN GODS) and Faith Hunter (THE JANE YELLOWROCK series)..
