Ménage Á Pop is a three times a week intimate discussion between two people and a piece of pop culture.
Nothing divided the classroom like a group assignment . While the intention might of been teamwork its outcome was always pure anarchy. And it was in the throes of such scholastic chaos that a lone middle schooler stared into the brink of a reading level far beyond her classmate’s comprehension. It may be years later, but Molly Bailen can still recall that moment as her introduction to the young adult novel “The Master Puppeteer.” So let’s flip to the back cover and report on what she has to say about this.

POP NOTES
First published in 1975, “The Master Puppeteer” was awarded the US National Book Award for Children’s Literature and a Mystery Writers Of America Edgar Allen Poe Special Award, both in 1977.
Author Katherine Paterson’s 1977 follow-up, THE BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA was ranked number 10 on a 2012 School Library Journal list of All Time Best Children’ novels. It has also been featured numerous times on the American Library Association’s list of Most Commonly Challenged Books due i to its mature dealings with death and an exploration of occultism.
In addition to Katherine Paterson’s previous children’s novel OF NIGHTINGALES THAT WEEP (1974), artist Haru Wells has also illustrated Daniel Cohen’s WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO THE DINOSAURS (1977) and Arnold Griese’s THE WAY OF OUR PEOPLE (1997)
Tune back this Friday when Molly encounters the counter culture of Kevin Smith’s and his 1994 indie debut CLERKS.
