THE TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE SOUNDTRACK

20th Century Pop! is a podcast that tries to understand the present by living in the past.  Each week hosts Bob and Tim take a sociological look at the pop culture of the '80s and '90s.  Its a ruining of their childhood that hopefully explains how they became adults.

COMPACT DISC-USSION: “Rock out with your Kup out“ (1986) Tim’s mid-80s cassette collection was a not-so-eclectic mix of stand-up comedy, orchestral movie scores and Weird Al Yankovic. Then, on his 11th birthday, he was gifted a ten song compilation consisting of synthesizers, heavy metal … and Weird Al Yankovic. It was the first holy grail of his childhood and, today, he reveals just how this Transformers movie soundtrack was more than met his eyes...er.. ears.

00:00:00  PRE-SHOW PRATTLE - the comedy stylings of Prime and Tommy
00:00:34  BALLAD OF A DERAILED EPISODE - and where is Bob Canning?
00:08:58  THE CD IS … THE TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK - and Tim is seeing it on the big screen
00:12:44  THE TOUCH” - and a hairy grail
00:21:29  “INSTRUMENTS OF DESTRUCTION” - Fatalism from Hasbro
00:24:55  “THE DEATH OF OPTIMUS PRIME” - isolating the score for impact
00:28:05  “DARE” - and maybe we’ll talk … just a little … about Hot Rod(?)
00:32:28  “NOTHIN’S GONNA STAND IN OUR WAY” - and who is this album for?
00:37:24  “THE TRANSFORMERS (THEME)” - Shout at the devil shaped robot voiced by Orson Welles
00:40:38  “ESCAPE” - the Rocky 4 of cartoon robot movie soundtracks
00:41:48  “HUNGER” - and becoming something beyond the movie

00:47:52  “DARE TO BE STUPID” - eat it, Transformers soundtrack
00:53:34  CHANG CHANGE, ITS GUIDED BY VOICES - why this soundtrack matters so much
00:58:44  CLOSINGS - contacts, plugs and no catch phrase
01:01:45  SPECIAL FEATURES - free bumper sticker

Watch a true clash of heavy metal as Optimus Prime battles Megatron, all scored to STAN BUSH’S THE TOUCH.

Raise a laser-lighter and request an encore with this live performance of DARE BY THE CYBERTRONIC SPREE.

Hear how it was apparently a cover wit h Australian soft-rock export JOHN FARNHAM’S ORIGINAL VERSION OF NOTHING’S GONNA STAND IN OUR WAY as featured in the film 1984 Linda Blair vehicle SAVAGE STREETS.

Stan Bush-wack a little deeper into his discogrpahy with this scene from BLOODSPORT featuring the STAN BUSH ORIGINAL, “FIGHT TO SURVIVE.”

Hear yourself stating “Why did these guys sing the Transformers theme?” with the non-Huey Lewis-led video of POWER LOVE BY LION.

Revel in the U2-level star power of this soundtrack with this surrealist jaunt through 80s video effects, WEIRD AL’S DARE TO BE STUPID.

Wonder where this could have fit in wit the sadly omitted from musical history hair metal masterpiece COLD SLITHER BY THE DREADNOCKS.

And, finally, listen to a very sincere reminisce by a very talented composer with this INTERVIEW WITH VINCE DICOLA.
