As a life-long comics fan, Tim is thrilled to welcome Meredith Moriarty, creator of the webcomic THIRD SHIFT SOCIETY. The only thing making him nervous is how little he actually knows about webcomics. Fortunately Meredith is up for a discussion resulting in this insider’s conversation on the unique nature of an updated medium.

(quick note: today’s episode was uploaded prior to the amazing declaration of Kamala Harris’s victory. So, if Tim sounds a little uncertain in the outro, that’s why.)

Meredith Moriarty is the Eisner nominated comic creator of THIRD SHIFT SOCIETY available at www.webtoons.com. Follow her on TWITTER @meredith_draws.

POP NOTES

  • The world’s first web comic, WITCHES AND STITCHES was uploaded to CompuServe in 1985. It was created as a parody of THE WIZARD OF OZ by Pulitzer prize winning artist Eric Millikin when he was still in elementary school.

  • Stafford Huyler’s NETBOY and Charley Parker’s ARGON ZARK were some of the earliest comics to be published directly to the world wide web in the mid 1990s.

  • In 1997, BIG PANDA was founded as the first hosting portal dedicated to webcomics. After its dissolution in 2000, founder Bryan McNett teamed up with comic artist Chris Crosby (SUPERIOSITY) to form the web comic portal KEENSPOT,

  • The Eisner Awards Ceremony was first held in 1988. The awards are named in honor of famed comic book creator Will Eisner (THE SPIRIT) and were initiated following the demise of the Jack Kirby Comics Industry Awards in 1987.

Tune back on Wednesday when Meredith Moriarty plugs in to the first person horror of SILENT HILL 2.
