Jarf is a fan of Kelly Kapoor. But he’d never want to be friends with someone who acted like her. So perhaps its because Mind Kaling took that role and transformed it into a memorable character that he finds her so endearing. But then is that still the character or a behind-the-scenes anecdote? See what Jarf thinks as he shares the contents of Kelly Kapoor’s Office Directory. That … and Tim goes off topic ... sort of.

You can listen to today’s guest JARF HARDEN three times a week on his podcast JOE VERSES THE MINUTE streaming on the GROWLER MEDIA PODCAST NETWORK as well as follow his show on INSTAGRAM, TWITTER and FACEBOOK @joevsminute

POP NOTES

  • Mindy Kaling was hired as a writer/performer for THE OFFICE’s inaugural 2005 season. At the time, she was the lone female writer on staff.

  • As tracked by Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, the co-hosts (and Office co-stars) of THE OFFICE LADIES , you can chart the evolution of Kelly from reserved background player to gossipy romantic through the changes in Mindy Kaling’s hair styles.

  • The episode “BRANCH CLOSING” originally aired in the third season on November 9th, 2006 and was written by show producer Michael Schur (creator of THE GOOD PLACE) and directed by Tucker Gates (director on THE X-FILES, WEEDS and SAMANTHA WHO?)

  • This episode was the first sitcom to release an extended PRODUCER’S CUT online (at nbc.com) the same night its commercial version premiered.

  • Extra scenes reinstated to the PRODUCERS CUT include a subplot involving Meredith tying to remember who she had a sex pact with, Ryan admitting Kelly has some sort unexplainable influence over him and Creed selling off various office supplies for his own benefit Creed’s deleted scenes are still referenced in the broadcast version through Kevin’s explanation that after work drinks were on Creed.

  • With the exception of it first season, THE OFFICE aired as part of NBC’s MUST SEE TV Thursday night block. In its hey-day, MUST SEE TV aired some of the highest watched programs on television including SEINFELD, ER and FRIENDS (as well as CAROLINE IN THE CITY). By THE OFFICE’s final season, MUST SEE TV’s legacy had slipped due to the rise of streaming services and the decline of television sitcoms.
